BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team (11-9, 6-4 MAC) took down Bowling Green (11-10, 4-6 MAC) on the road in the Stroh Center, 91-83, on Saturday evening.
In the Flashes' highest scoring effort against a Division-I opponent this season, Sincere Carry starred yet again with a game-high 30 points. He was 11-for-19 from the field and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc while adding seven assists.
Kent State scored 58 points in a second-half shootout to grab a hard-earned victory over the Falcons. The second-half scoring outbreak was the most points the Flashes have scored in a single half this season.
The Flashes and Falcons battled early, trading buckets and leads throughout the first half before Bowling Green went on a 6-0 run in the final minutes of the first half to extend its lead. A VonCameron Davis layup with 10 seconds on the clock sent the teams into the locker room trailing 37-33.
The Golden Flashes catapulted out of the locker room from the opening possession when Carry drilled a three to get the scoring snowball rolling. He continued torturing the Falcons to the tune of 23 second-half points. It was Carry's second 30-point game of the season.
Kent State and Bowling Green went back and forth all second half, but a 6-0 Falcons run after the game was tied at 54 saw the Flashes behind with 10 minutes left. After trading baskets for a couple minutes, the team did not panic and used an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 67-65, with 7:21 to play.
Big threes by Carry and Davis extended the lead and the Flashes pulled away in the final minute for the eight-point win. Davis scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 26 minutes.
Andrew Garcia recorded 13 points despite fouling out in only 19 minutes, and Malique Jacobs notched his second straight near triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Justyn Hamilton added eight points and eight boards.
After a monstrous first half in which Daeqwon Plowden scored 21 points, the Flashes held him to just six points after the break. Myron Gordon added 13 points and eight assists for the Falcons.
