Flashes Set for Road Showdown with Northern Illinois

KENT, Ohio – Kent State soccer will face off with Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 13, in an important conference road matchup in DeKalb, Ill. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Kent State is currently tied for second place in the Mid-American Conference standings and will look to extend their unbeaten streak to five games. Buffalo currently leads the MAC, followed closely by Ball State and KSU.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes (4-6-4, 4-1-2 MAC) secured a crucial victory in the hunt for the MAC regular season title against Bowling Green on Thursday night, winning 1-0.
Redshirt senior Tianna Harris scored the game-winner just minutes into the second half, heading in a perfectly-placed corner kick from sophomore Siena Stambolich. Harris then anchored the Flashes' back line, cutting out scoring opportunities early and earning the fourth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Sarah Melén tallied five saves en route to the clean sheet.
The goal was Harris' first of the season and ninth in her illustrious career in Kent. Stambolich tallied her second assist of the season and is currently second on the team with eight points.
Record Watch
Thursday's win over Bowling Green was the 200th win at the helm of Kent State soccer for head coach Rob Marinaro. Marinaro has been with the Kent State soccer program since its inception in 1997 and has served as head coach for 22 seasons.
Scouting the Huskies
Northern Illinois (5-6-3, 2-4-1 MAC) has lost two straight games, including a 1-0 defeat against Buffalo on Thursday. Claudia Muessig leads the Huskies in goals with four, including a pair of game-winners, while Jamie Ward has tallied a team-high three assists. Sadie McGill has started the last four games in goal, totaling seven starts on the year. The senior has 33 saves, one shutout, and a 1.65 goals against average.
Series History
The Flashes and Huskies will square off for the 27th time on Sunday. Kent State leads the all-time series, 13-9-4, and has won the last seven matches, including a 2-0 win a season ago. Harris was responsible for the game winner at Dix Stadium last year.
