Ranallo's Last-Second Goal Leads Flashes to 2-2 Draw

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State soccer team came from behind to walk away with a 2-2 draw against Toledo on Sunday at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.
The Golden Flashes (2-6-3, 2-1-1 MAC) earn their first draw of Mid-American Conference play, while the Rockets (1-6-3, 0-2-2 MAC) snap a two-game losing streak.
Kent State controlled the pace of the game from the get-go. In the 35th minute, sophomore Alisa Arthur scored her first goal of the season to break the scoreless draw. Sophomore Siena Stambolich passed the ball to freshman Lua Suero, who found Arthur on the right side of the 18-yard box and fired a shot to the keeper's right side, burying it into the back of the net.
The goal was the fourth of Arthur's career after scoring three in her freshman campaign. Suero records her first-career assist, while Stambolich tallies her first of the season.
Toledo's offensive attack found its footing in the second half, scoring the equalizer in the 73rd minute and taking the lead in the 87th minute. A goal scored that late in the second half might have demoralized some teams, but not Kent State.
The Flashes earned a free kick from just inside the midfield line with under a minute left on the clock, and Arthur sent a dangerous ball into the box. Junior Dalaney Ranallo headed the ball into the bottom-left corner of the goal to tie the game with just 23 seconds left before the final whistle. The Dix Stadium crowd, which included Kent State soccer alumni, erupted as the ball crossed the goal line.
Ranallo now has two goals on the season, while Arthur tallies her second assist of the year, both of which were headed home by Ranallo.
Arthur and Ranallo led the box score for the Flashes with two shots apiece, while Suero, Mary Kate Lape, and Luca Ralph all had dangerous shots turned away by the Toledo keeper. Kent State led the Rockets in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Sarah Melén tallied two saves on the afternoon.
The Flashes have three days off before they head back up to the Mitten State on Thursday, Oct. 6, to square off against Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m.
