CLEVELAND – Two members of the Kent State soccer team have earned postseason honors from the Mid-American Conference, the league office announced Tuesday.Â
Redshirt senior Tianna Harris was named to the All-MAC First Team, while freshman Kelsey Salopek garnered MAC All-Freshman Team recognition.
Harris played and started in all 18 games for the Golden Flashes, tallying a team-high 1620 minutes. She anchored the Flashes' back line and helped the defense earn five shutouts, four in conference play, and limited MAC opponents to just 46 shots on goal -Â the lowest mark in the conference. Harris also tallied seven points on the year, scoring three goals, which tied for the team lead, and added one assist. The Whitby, Ontario native scored the game-winner at home against Bowling Green, then recorded the first brace of her illustrious career to lead a second-half comeback in the season's penultimate game against Central Michigan.
This marks the second consecutive year that Harris has earned postseason conference honors. Last season, she was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-MAC after leading the Flashes to the conference championship game. Harris scored 11 goals and played an integral part in 19 shutouts during her career in Kent.
Salopek appeared in all 18 games, including 17 starts, and played a total of 1,494 minutes in the midfield during her debut campaign. Salopek also tied for the team lead in goals, including the game-winner in the Wagon Wheen Rivalry game. She tallied her first career goal and first collegiate brace in the conference opener against Ohio, and then scored in the Flashes' win over Akron, earning Offensive Player of the Week honors following her breakout weekend. Salopek led the Flashes in shots (23) shots on goal (14) on the year.
