KENT-The Flashes close out the mid-week MACtion portion of the schedule and look to send the senior class out with a home win as Kent State hosts Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night.
Kent State will honor the 2022 senior class of student athletes and staff in a pre-game ceremony and look to secure the 13th home victory under head coach Sean Lewis. More importantly, a victory over the Eagles keeps the Flashes post-season hopes alive.
The Flashes are coming off an impressive 40-6 triumph over Bowling Green last week to secure the Anniversary Award for the fifth consecutive season. Collin Schlee led a balanced offensive attack with a four touchdown performance, including one on the ground. The Flashes' defense held Bowling Green to under four yards per play, including under two per rush in the win. Marvin Pierre led the charge with a nine tackle (two for loss) performance that included a sack and a pick six. Both Schlee and Pierre earned Conference Player of the Week honors for their efforts.
They will look to shutdown an Eastern Michigan team that has been impressive away from Ypsilanti, posting a 4-1 road record this season. They have been paced by running back Samson Evans, who is fourth in the MAC with 855 rushing yards this season, good for 95 yards per game. Evans has a nose for the end zone, as he's second in the MAC with 11 rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Michigan State transfer Chase Kline leads the team in tackles, averaging about eight per game. Jose Ramirez is a premiere edge rusher and is second in the MAC with eight sacks. Jaylon Jackson is one of the more dangerous return men in the FBS, he averages 29 yards per return and one touchdown this season.
This will be the 33rd meeting between the teams with Kent State holding a 18-14 all-time edge. The Flashes have won the last two games including a 27-23 comeback win at home in 2020.
Wednesday's game will kick off officially at 6:05 and air on ESPN2 as well as the Kent State Radio Network. Fans can also follow the game on social media @KentStFootball for in-game highlights.
Kent State flips back to Saturday for the final game of the regular season. The Flashes head to Buffalo on Saturday, November 26th for a 1 p.m. kick-off against the Bulls.
