BUFFALO- Kent State erased a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to storm back and stun the Buffalo Bulls, 30-27 in overtime in the regular season finale for the Golden Flashes.
Tommy Ulatowski provided a spark off the bench at quarterback, leading a pair of late touchdown drives in regulation before finding Devontez Walker in the end zone for the walk-off touchdown. The freshman finished the day with 102 yards passing, all in the fourth quarter and overtime and the walk-off winner to Walker.
Marquez Cooper led the way on the ground with 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cooper scored the first touchdown of the day to tie the game at 10 and the last touchdown of regulation to tie the game at 24 after the two-point conversion. Cooper's first score of the day was the lone touchdown for the Flashes in the first half and the teams battled high winds and went to the locker room tied at 10.
Buffalo found their spark in the third quarter, scoring twice to go up 24-10 heading into the fourth. Ulatowski came in the final frame to help engineer the comeback. Cooper had a gritty six-yard run on fourth-and-five. Ulatowski found Walker two plays later for 42 yards, setting up a Ja'Shaun Poke 10-yard run on a fourth down reverse to make it a 24-16 ball game.
The soul collector defense got a quick stop of the Buffalo offense and Ulatowski went back to work from his own 24. Nine plays later, Cooper hammered home a two-yard run and Ulatowski found Poke on a two-point conversion to knot the game at 24. The Flashes forced a fumble on the following drive, sending the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, the defense again rose to the occasion. Buffalo settled for a field goal to go up 27-24. Cooper rushed twice to get the ball inside the 10-yard line on the ensuing possession. On second-and-goal, Ulatowski rolled out and found Walker in the back corner of the endzone for the game winner.
The victory closes the season with two-straight road wins and a 5-7 record, 4-4 in conference play and 4-1 against the East Division. Buffalo now sits at 5-6 and will play the Zips next Friday for a chance at bowl eligibility.
