
Flashes Drop Dual to #3 Buckeyes

COLUMBUS- The Golden Flashes dropped a hard-fought dual to the third-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Sunday, 32-9 in the first traditional dual of the season for Kent State.
The dual started at the traditional 125 pounds and Jake Ferri gave the 13th ranked Malik Heinselman all he could handle in the opening bout. Ferri found himself down 3-0 but used an escape and a third-period takedown to even the match at three. However, Heinselman earned the riding time bonus point to earn a 4-3 decision. Brendon Fenton would drop a 5-0 decision to Nic Bouzakis after the freshman was able to use a takedown and a reversal to grab a 4-0 lead and earned the riding time point.
Louis Newell led number 18 Dylan D'Emilio heading into the third, using an escape to grab a 1-0 advantage. But D'Emilio got an escape at the start of the third and a late takedown to earn a 3-1 decision. Kody Komara dropped a tech fall 19-3 to the third-ranked Sammy Sasso, making it 14-0 Buckeyes through four matches.
The Flashes would get the next two bouts. Freshman Keegan Knapp knocked off Isaac Wilcox by a 6-3 margin. Knapp trailed 2-1 after the first person before getting a takedown to even things up 3-3 heading into the final period. The freshman earned his third win of the year with an escape and take down of Wilcox to pull away in the final moments. With Wilcox wrestling at 157, he was also penciled in at 165 pounds, Enrique Munguia would end up taking the win by forfeit making it 14-9 Ohio State.
The Buckeyes would put the dual out of reach with tech fall wins at 174, 184 and 197. Jacob Cover would drop a 9-2 decision at heavyweight against Mike Misita.
The Flashes will head home for a pair of December duals to close out the calendar year. First up is the MAC lid-lifter, a dual with Northern Illinois on Sunday, December 18th. The dual starts at 1 p.m. and will be inside the Kent State Field House.
