BLOOMSBURG, PA- The Kent State Golden Flashes won the final five matches of the evening, three by major decision in a 25-16 triumph over the host Bloomsburg Huskies in a Friday night MAC dual.
Jake Ferri got the evening started with a statement win over Bronson Garber. Ferri was dominant from the start and nearly ended the bout with a pin but settled for a four-point near fall in a 16-3 major decision victory.
Bloomsburg would take the next two matches and took their largest lead of the night at 12-4. Kody Komara reset the tone for the rest of the evening with a defensive clinic over Cade Balestrini. Komara got an escape and used over two minutes of riding time in a 2-0 decision.
Brady Chrisman continued his excellent wrestling with a dominant major decision victory. He's won four of his last five matches, two by identical 18-6 scores including tonight over Trenton Harder. Michael Ferree followed suit with a 17-6 major decision over Matt Benedetti and closed the Bloomsburg lead to one at 16-15.
With the momentum clearly on the visitor's side, Colin McCracken gave Kent State a lead they would not relinquish. McCracken took control early against Bruno Stolfi and cruised to a 14-2 major decision, giving Kent State a 19-16 lead.
Tyler Bates and 197 and Jacob Cover at 285 put exclamation points on the win. Bates was clinical and posted the Golden Flashes' second shutout of the day. Bates blanked David Tuttle by a 4-0 decision. Jacob Cover was down in the first period against Shane Noonan but much like the Flashes, rallied in the second half of his bout to win 11-6.
Kent State now sits at 6-7 on the year and improves to 4-4 in the MAC. The Flashes conclude the regular season next Friday night when they travel to the Land of Lincoln to take on Southern Illinois at Edwardsville.
