FORT MYERS, Fla. – Kent State was two outs away from completing a winning weekend at the FGCU Kickoff Classic on Sunday afternoon, when Hannah Slike doubled to score a pair of runners and give Boston College a 3-2 walk-off victory.

The Golden Flashes (2-3) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning, which started with a single by freshman Savannah Wing. With two outs in the frame, senior Sabrina Kerschner hit a double, scoring pinch runner Julia Mazanec. An error allowed Kerschner to trot home and make it 2-0.

Redshirt senior Andrea Scali (0-1) kept the Eagles off the scoreboard through five innings before having control problems in the bottom of the sixth. A four-pitch walk and hit batter placed a runner into scoring position with two outs when Nicole Giery sent a single back up the middle to get within 2-1.

Senior Brenna Brownfield collected her third single of the day in the top of the seventh, but Kent State was unable to add to its lead.

An error to start the bottom of the seventh was followed by an infield single to put the first two BC batters aboard. Freshman Kylie Ringler then entered the circle in relief of Scali and retired the first batter she faced on a sac bunt. Slike then sent a 1-2 pitch to left field for the winning double.

Scali recorded six strikeouts over six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits.

"Frustrating end to the weekend. Missed opportunities early hurt us in the end," said head coach Eric Oakley. "Overall, we learned a lot this weekend, found some things to work on, had some firsts, and got a good idea of what this team has the potential to do."

Kent State will return to action when it travels to Buies Creek, N.C. for five games at the Camel Stampede on Feb. 25-27. The field will include host Campbell, Marshall and Howard.
