
Big Second Half Lifts Falcons Over Flashes

KENT, Ohio — Bowling Green shot 58.3% from the field in the second half and left the M.A.C. Center with a 77-67 victory over Kent State on Monday evening.
The Golden Flashes (16-9, 8-8 MAC) took a 35-33 lead into the locker room after senior Hannah Young sank a pair of free throws with 3.0 remaining before halftime.
The tempo quickened at the start of the second half, as each team scored nine points in the first 2:10 of the third quarter. A 9-0 run by the Falcons midway through the period gave the visitors a 56-49 lead with 1:53 remaining in the quarter.
Baskets by Young bookended a 9-1 run that put Kent State back in the lead. The teams traded field goals and the Flashes led 60-59 with 7:14 to play. Bowling Green took the lead for good on a three-point play out of a timeout, starting a 7-0 run, and Kent State shot just 2-of-9 the rest of the way.
Freshman Bridget Dunn scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed five rebounds. Young added 11 points and juniors Nila Blackford and Katie Shumate had 10 points apiece. Blackford pulled down a game-high seven boards. Senior Lindsey Thall totaled five assists and three blocked shots.
The Flashes will play at Miami on Wednesday, Feb. 23 and then return to the M.A.C. Center for Senior Day against Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 26.
