BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kylie Ringler continued a tremendous start to her freshman campaign and tossed the fifth perfect game in school history as Kent State beat Howard, 8-0, in its final game at the Camel Stampede on Saturday. The Golden Flashes lost to host Campbell, 3-0, earlier in the day.
Ringler retired all 15 batters she faced in just her second collegiate start and has not allowed a run in 12.1 innings this season.
Fellow freshmen Delaney Robeson and Savannah Wing both went 2-for-4 at the plate and had a stolen base on the day. Robeson added three RBIs and scored twice.
"Great weekend of pitching, highlighted by Kylie's perfect game," said head coach Eric Oakley. "The bats are not where we need them to be yet, but it's encouraging that we finished strong. Kudos to Jess, Andrea and Kylie for keeping us in games all weekend, and Emily, Jalynn and Kiley for their work behind the plate."
Game 1: Campbell 3, Kent State 0
Jessica LeBeau's perfect game bid ended with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fifth inning. A bunt single and another walk loaded the bases. Two runs then scored on a double down the left field line. LeBeau retired the next two batters, but a second bunt single brought a run home to make it 3-0.
Kent State totaled three hits in the game, with Brooklyn Whitt, Alexandria Whitmore and Kylie Ringler each collecting singles.
LeBeau (1-3) recorded 11 strikeouts and held the Camels to three hits.
Game 2: Kent State 8, Howard 0 (5 innings)
Kylie Ringler (2-0) struck out seven of the 15 batters she faced in recording Kent State's first perfect game since redshirt senior Andrea Scali in 2019.
The Golden Flashes got the scoring started with five runs in the top of the third inning. Sabrina Kerschner, Brooklyn Whitt and Alexandria Whitmore got the frame started with singles to load the bases. Savannah Wing brought in the first run with a sac fly. Delaney Robeson followed with a bunt single to make it 2-0. Chloe Cruz tripled to clear the bases and scored on a single by Kiley Lewandowski.
Clutch hitting brought three more runs across the plate in the fourth inning. After the first two batters were retired, Whitmore drew a walk and Wing singled up the middle. Both players moved into scoring position on a double-steal and scored on a single by Robeson. Jessica LeBeau then hit her first collegiate triple to bring Robeson home from first.
