KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes' road portion of the Mid-American Conference schedule opens this weekend with a trip to Athens for a four-game series with the Ohio Bobcats.
The four-game set opens with a 5 p.m. first pitch on Friday, a double header starting at one on Saturday and a single game on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
The Golden Flashes and Bobcats both come into the series at 1-1 in the MAC after similar weather-altered weekends. The Golden Flashes and Central Michigan Chippewas split on Friday before seeing Saturday and Sunday washed out due to weather. The Ohio Bobcats and Northern Illinois Huskies saw a similar fate after a Friday split.
Kent State got a virtuoso performance from Richie Dell last Friday and he will get the ball to start the four-game set. Dell tossed the first complete-game shutout for the Flashes since 2018 and allowed just two hits while striking out a career-best eight. Justin Miknis paced the offense with five hits in the double header and has a modest-five game hit streak heading into the weekend. Lead-off man Kyle Jackson has gotten a hit in nine of the 11 games so far this season but has a 14 game on-base streak dating back to last season.
Ohio comes into the weekend at 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the MAC. Their pitching staff is led by fifth-year senior Edward Kutt IV who tossed a complete game in the Bobcats' win over NIU. Lefty Jacob Tate is also off to a solid start to the year, owning a 1.23 ERA over 14 innings and three starts this year. The Bobcat offense averages over five runs per game and do so with gap power. The Bobcats have 23 doubles on the year compared to just five homers.
This weekend's games are scheduled to stream on You Tube and the Bobcats will be providing live stats for each game. The links are available on the baseball schedule page. The Flashes will stay on the road next week with a mid-week contest at Pitt before heading to DeKalb for a four-game series with Northern Illinois. The Flashes will be back at home the weekend of April 1st to host UCONN at Schoonover Stadium.
