
Wickey and Malanda Earn MAC Indoor Track and Field Postseason Awards

CLEVELAND – Kent State's Jake Wickey and Alexandre Malanda have earned awards for their performances at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, as the conference announced its 2022 men's indoor track and field postseason awards Wednesday morning.
Wickey was named Most Outstanding Field Performer, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference, for the second year in a row. The Medina native defeated a pair of top-5 nationally ranked competitors to capture his record-setting fourth weight throw title with a winning mark of 73'-11.75". Wickey will conclude his final indoor season at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the City of Birmingham. The men's weight throw competition is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, March 11.
Malanda won Freshman Field Performer of the Year as the highest point-scorer among freshmen in field events at the meet. The Paris native earned All-MAC Second Team honors by finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 52' 3.75" that ranks fourth on the Golden Flashes' all-time indoor performance list. Malanda also scored a point in the long jump, finishing sixth in the event.
