DeKALB, IL- Kent State got another balanced offensive effort and five solid innings from freshman Eric Chalus in a series-cliniching 12-2 win over Northern Illinois on Monday afternoon.

Four Golden Flashes had two hits and nine different Golden Flashes scored a run in the victory. That was more than enough for Chalus who held the Huskies to a run and a hit over five innings while striking out five.

Kent State used the power of the big inning on Monday, scoring in bunches in the third, fourth and sixth. Justin Kirby had the big blow in the third, a mammoth two-run homer to left as part of a three-run frame.

Three more runs crossed in the fourth as the Flashes pounded out four hits in the inning. Justin Miknis scored two on a single up the middle and Connor Ashby followed suit with a run-scoring single of his own. Kent State broke things open in the sixth, plating five runs. Nick Elsen and Miknis each had run scoring singles, but the Flashes took advantage of two big errors in the inning that saw Kent State send 10 men to the plate. Peyton Pennington closed the scoring with a rbi single in the ninth.

The relief duo of Peyton Cariaco and Jacob Baldino closed out the final four innings on Monday. They combined for four innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out four.

The Flashes now head home for eight of their next nine ballgames. The home stand gets started on Friday with the #25 UCONN Huskies coming to town for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday night from Schoonover is set for 6 p.m.
