CLEVELAND — Seven Kent State student-athletes have been named to the 2022 Women's Basketball Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The seven honorees are one off the program record set a year ago.
The Academic All-MAC Team honors student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Seniors Mariah Modkins, Lindsey Thall and Hannah Young were recognized for the third time and juniors Nila Blackford, Clare Kelly and Katie Shumate were named to the team for the second time. Sophomore Casey Santoro earned her first Academic All-MAC Team selection.
The Golden Flashes have flourished in the classroom under the direction of sixth-year head coach Todd Starkey, as women's basketball student-athletes have earned three Academic All-America honors and 34 Academic All-MAC honors.
