CLEVELAND — Kent State redshirt senior Andrea Scali has been named the Nan Harvey Award recipient and selected to the All-MAC Second Team, as the Mid-American Conference announced its 2022 postseason softball awards on Wednesday (May 11).
Four additional Golden Flashes received honors, as sophomores Jessica LeBeau and Madison Hershberger joined Scali as All-MAC Second Team selections and Kylie Ringler and Savannah Wing were voted to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Scali is Kent State's third recipient of the Nan Harvey Award, which is given annually to a MAC softball student-athlete who demonstrates the type of commitment, leadership, toughness and tenacious attitude that Harvey, an integral part of the University at Buffalo family for two decades, epitomized. Scali, who was the 2019 MAC Pitcher of the Year in the only other season she completed, underwent three major surgeries during her five-year career. She continued to be a vocal team leader throughout her career, and her determination to push through and leave the game on her own terms provided inspiration for her teammates. In the circle this season, Scali earned seven victories while recording a 3.07 ERA and 131 strikeouts.
LeBeau earned her second straight second-team nod, this time at the utility/pitcher spot. She ranked in the top-5 in the MAC overall in ERA (2.58), strikeouts (155) and opponent batting average (.198) but took it to another level in conference action, ranking second with a 2.13 ERA and .177 opponent batting average. LeBeau's talents as a batter were utilized more this season, and she slugged three home runs and had 10 RBIs.
Hershberger hit .333 and was tied for second on the team with six doubles despite being limited to 66 at-bats. Her first collegiate home run came at No. 19 Michigan on March 10 off All-American Alex Storako.
Ringler posted a 5-3 record and 3.14 ERA in her first college season. She totaled 32 strikeouts over 35.2 innings in the circle and had a team-high three shutouts, including the fifth perfect game in school history in just her second start against Howard on Feb. 26.
Wing led the Flashes by playing in 47 of 48 games and making 44 starts. She totaled 31 hits, which was the second most on the team, 14 RBIs and a .375 on-base percentage.
