
Javelin Crew Puts Kent State in Lead at MAC Women’s Outdoor T&F Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kent State scored 19 of its 22 points in the javelin throw and finished Thursday's opening day of the Mid-American Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships atop the leaderboard.
Grace Tennant led the way in second with a throw of 147' 9" to earn All-MAC honors. Despite also competing in the heptathlon, Karlea Duhon was right behind in third with a mark of 132'-9". Grace Frye's throw of 115'-9" was good for sixth and Morgan White finished seventh with a top mark of 112'-7".
Personal-best marks by Briana Wright and Grace Luther gave the Golden Flashes three points in the hammer throw. Wright had a throw of 178'-5" for seventh and Luther placed eighth with a throw of 178'-3".
Karlea Duhon posted PRs in two of the four heptathlon events and totaled 3,075 points to sit in second place and just 28 behind 2021 MAC champion Karlie Zumbro of Ball State. After clocking a time of 14.78 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, Duhon tied for first in the high jump (5'-5.75") and then won the shot put (40'-5.5") to take the lead through three events. She concluded the day with a time of 27.11 in the 200-meter dash and is 41 points ahead of the third-place competitor.
On the track, Alexandria Verbancic ran a time of 1:02.40 to advance to the 400-meter hurdles final on Saturday.
Action will resume Friday at 12 p.m. with the heptathlon long jump. The long jump, pole vault and shot put are all scheduled for 3 p.m. and running prelims will continue with the 100-meter hurdles at 3:30 p.m.
