KENT, OHIO- Kent State opens up a five-game home week to close out the regular season on Tuesday night, welcoming in Georgia Tech for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Schoonover Stadium.
It is a homecoming for Georgia Tech skipper Danny Hall, who managed the Golden Flashes for six seasons from 1988-1993. Hall went 208-117 for the Golden Flashes and led Kent State to the 1992 and 1993 NCAA tournament.
This season he has the Yellow Jackets at 28-21 entering this week with a pair of non-conference games against the Zips on Monday and the Golden Flashes on Tuesday before a trip to take on the Pitt Panthers in ACC play over the weekend. The Ramblin' Wreck are a stout offensive club, hitting .319 as a team with 92 homers already on the season entering the week. Five members of their lineup have double digit homers, led by all-everything catcher Kevin Parada. He leads the team with 23 long balls and 74 runs driven in
The Flashes enter the game at 21-26 on the season after taking three of four from Western Michigan over the weekend. Kent State rolled up 52 runs in the four games, scoring 12 or more in each of the three wins. Josh Johnson and Michael McNamara led the offensive charge. Each drove in 11 runs over the weekend, with Johnson adding nine runs scored and McNamara going 10-14 at the plate. Senior Max Rippl will get the start for Kent State on Tuesday night, making his first start of the year against 14 relief appearances. He got the save in Saturday's game one win over Western Michigan and is averaging a strike out per inning this season.
This will be the 19th all-time meeting between the teams, the 18th since Hall took over in Atlanta and the first here at Kent State. Georgia Tech owns a 13-5 all-time lead in the series, the teams last split two games to open the 2012 season.
Tuesday's game will be streamed via Box Cast with Dan Griffin and Tyler Henry on the call, live stats will also be available. Links can be found on the baseball schedule page. The Flashes will wrap up the regular season with a four-game set with Eastern Michigan, starting on Thursday. First pitch from Schoonover is set for 6 p.m.
