FRANKLIN TENN... The Kent State women's golf team will gear up for the Franklin Regional beginning on Monday May 9, as the Flashes look to punch one of four tickets to this years NCAA Championships.
"We are very excited to compete at this year's regionals," Kent State head coach Casey VanDamme said. "A chance to get into the finals is what you are looking for from the beginning of the season, we have done that, and now it's time to compete."
To advance to the next level, the Flashes will have to overcome some steep competition in a field that features four top-25 teams in #4 Wake Forest, #9 Alabama, #15 Texas A&M and #21 Duke, as well as four more fellow top-50 schools and a Vanderbilt team that should get a boost as the hosts of this year's competition.
All five members of the Kent State lineup will be seeing the Vanderbilt Legends club for the first time in their careers, and the course will test the Flashes over the next several days.
"This course has difficult green complexes and is an approach shot course," VanDamme said. "Our ball striking is our strength so we look forward to the challenge."
While the competition will be steep, this Kent State team has already proven their ability to stay cool under pressure and will post a lineup that features MAC Golfer of the Year Emily Price, MAC Freshman of the Year Jennifer Gu, All-MAC first teamer's Chloe Salort and Mayka Hoogeboom and All-MAC second team selection Noramol Nuchsila.
The Flashes will be paired with BYU and UTSA for the first round of play on Monday beginning with an 8:00 tee time, and live scoring can be found all weekend on GolfStat.com.
