KENT, OHIO- Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas has been named to the Biletnikoff and Walter Camp Award Watch Lists as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The Biletnikoff award is given annually to the best pass catcher in college football, regardless of position. Players can play their way onto the watch list throughout the season. Last year, Cephas did just that, earning the honor last October after a 103-yard performance in a win at Ohio University. The Walter Camp Award is given annually to the college football player of the year and is voted on by Division-I head coaches and sports information directors.
Cephas finished the season with 82 catches for 1,240 yards, becoming the first Kent State wide receiver to top 1,000 yards since 1997. Cephas also finished with seven 100-yard games and nine receiving touchdowns. His receptions, yards and touchdowns were all top-three in the Mid-American Conference. He was named first-team all-conference for his stellar 2021 season.
For the Biletnikoff Award, the semifinalist, finalist and award winner will be voted on by the award's national selection committee consisting of journalists, broadcasters, past winners, and former receivers. The award winner will be presented with the Biletnikoff trophy at the annual award banquet held in March in Tallahassee. The award is named for Fred Biletnikoff, who is enshrined in both the pro and college football halls of fame. Biletnikoff starred at Florida State before a 14-year career with the Oakland Raiders, earning the Most Valuable Player award in Super Bowl XI. The Walter Camp Award will narrow down its watch list to 10 semi-finalists in November. The Award is named for legendary head coach Walter Camp who is considered the "Father of American Football" for his invention of rules such as the line of scrimmage and 11 men per side.
