Independence, MN... After a strong Monday on the links, the Kent State men's golf team overtook Michigan State to finish the Gopher Invitational in a tie for second. The Flashes wrapped up their time in Independence 15 strokes under par and just five strokes off the leaders from Georgia Southern.
"I was very impressed with how the guys competed this week," Flashes head coach Jon Mills said. "We got off to a slow start on Monday but they managed to stay patient while other teams faltered on the back 9, and we kept making birdies."
Jordan Gilkison and Chris Vandette led the charge, carding a 67 and a 70 respectively in the final round to finish in a tie for fourth individually.
Bryce Reed joined his teammates in the top half of the field, staying two strokes under par for the invitational.
The Flashes will be back in action on September 26th for this year's Windon Memorial hosted by Northwestern in Glencoe.
