Flashes Fall to NIU on the Road

DeKalb, Illinois - The Kent State men's basketball team fell short to Northern Illinois, 86-76, Tuesday night inside the NIU Convocation Center breaking their ten-game win streak.
In a game that had 10 different lead changes and seven ties, the Flashes were not able to hold onto a lead to win. The Huskies came out ready to battle scoring the first four points of the game with two dunks from Darweshi Hunter. Flashes' Giovanni Santiago put the Flashes on the board with a field goal outside the paint.
The Flashes and Huskies went back and forth trading buckets for the majority of the game. Flashes' Jalen Sullinger came into the game scoring double digits in the first half. Nine of those 11 points came from beyond the arch. Despite the Flashes outshooting the Huskies 65.5% to 50% from the field, the Flashes only held on to a three-point lead going into the final half of the game.
The Flashes battled fouls and the Huskies took advantage, shooting 85% from the charity line. Huskies' David Coit poured in a game-high 32 points shooting 57.1% from the field and 55.6% from beyond the arch. The Huskies made use of second-point chances and fast break points to scrape by the Flashes.
Five Flashes scored double digits including Jalen Sullinger who recorded a team-high 17 points. Sincere Carry followed with 16 points and a team-high 7 assists. As a whole, the team shot 51.9% from the field, 46.4& from beyond the arch, and 85.0% from the free throw line.

The Flashes will travel back home for a quick turnaround to face the University of Buffalo at the M.A.C. Center Friday, Jan. 27. Tip time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
