Takagi Continues Excellent Play, Records Second Straight Top Five Finish

Leon Takagi placed 3rd for the second consecutive tournament, moving up one spot on the final day at the Mercedes-Benz Invitational. This marks Takagi's third top ten finish in five tournaments this Fall.

The reigning MAC women's golfer of the week shot a total score of 208 throughout the last three days, finishing at five under par.

Takagi shot four over par through the front nine this morning, but surged on the back nine with five birdies in seven holes. The sophomore tied for a tournament best seven under on par fives.

"It was great to see Leon put herself in a position to win!" said head coach Casey VanDamme. "She had a good fall and we look forward to seeing her improvement in the spring."

As a team, Kent State took 10th place out of 16 teams.

Veronika Kedronova and Berta Sanchez also sat inside the top 40, with the best round of the two being Kedronova's second round score of 71.

The completion of today's event marks the fifth and final tournament of the fall for Casey VanDamme's team as they will focus their sights on the spring.

"As we move into the development phase of our season we expect to see some significant improvement with our team," said VanDamme.

Kent State will take the offseason to prepare for five more tournaments in the winter and spring before the MAC championships. The Golden Flashes will return to action at the UCF Challenge from Feb. 4-6.
