
McGuire Surpasses 500 Kills Against WMU

KENT, Ohio โ Sophomore Mackenzie McGuire recorded her 500th kill in a Kent State uniform Thursday evening at the M.A.C. Center during the second set of a 3-0 (24-26, 21-25, 9-25) setback to Western Michigan.
McGuire, who entered the contest with 491 kills, finished with a match-high 15 kills. Freshman Lily King totaled a career-high 32 assists and tallied nine digs in her first start at the setter position.
The Golden Flashes (4-13, 0-6 MAC) were led defensively by senior Bryn Roberts, who recorded 16 digs. Freshman Brooke Rifkin added 11 digs.
How it Happenedโฆ
ย ย ย Set 1 (24-26): A kill by Emma Schroeder on the first point set the tone early as Kent State played from ahead and led 11-6 to force Western Michigan to call both of its timeouts. The Broncos scored five straight to even it before Kiana Mack put the Golden Flashes back ahead with a kill, and the lead reached three as Karina Salinas followed with an ace and Mackenzie McGuire added a kill. WMU took its first lead of the night with a five-point run that made it 23-20. Kent State tied it at 23-23 but the Broncos took three of the next four points to win the set.
ย ย ย Set 2 (21-25): The Flashes led early before WMU went ahead for good with a 6-2 run. Both offenses produced with high efficiency, as the Broncos hit .429 and Kent State posted a .333 team hitting percentage.
ย ย ย Set 3 (9-25): WMU raced to an 11-1 lead and controlled the rest of the set.

Kent State will be back in action at the M.A.C. Center on Friday against Northern Illinois as the four-match homestand continues.
