Schaffer Leads Flashes at Navy Classic

ANNAPOLIS- Blake Schaffer wrestled to a fifth-place finish on Saturday, leading the Golden Flashes at the Navy Classic.
Schaffer went 5-1 on the day including a 9-3 win over Navy's Jacob Lucas who was seeded fifth in the bracket. After dropping a match in the quarterfinals, Schaffer earned a 19-13 victory by decision and a 18-8 major decision over Edinboro's Nick Lodato to earn fifth-place honors.
At 141 pounds, Billy Meiszner wrestled to a sixth-place finish on Saturday. Meiszner dropped his first match but battled back through the consolation bracket with a 14-3 major decision victory and a 14-9 win.
Several other wrestlers had multiple wins on the day. At 125 pounds, Adan Benavidez earned a trio of victories on the day. His Classic was highlighted by a 13-2 major decision victory over Bronson Garber
of Bloomsburg. Keegan Knapp also earned a trio of victories, a pair of decisions and then a pin of Lock Haven's Kaiden Wagner. Pablo Castro earned victories eight and nine of the year, earning a major decision win over Gavin Caprella of the Air Force Academy.
Full results from the Navy Classic are available here. Kent State will take the holiday weekend off before returning to action on December 2. The Flashes will head to Gardner-Webb to wrestle in a quad meet against Chattanooga, Buffalo and the host Runnin' Bulldogs. All the action starts at 1 p.m.
