Flashes Erupt for 18 Runs in Runaway Victory

JACKSONVILLE, FL- Kent State struck for a seven-run third inning, highlighting an offensive onslaught that saw every starter score or drive in a run in a 18-6 victory on Sunday.
The 18-run outburst is the most runs scored since the Flashes plated 19 in a 2021 win at Ball State. The Flashes scored in five of the first six innings on Sunday, knocking around five different Dolphin pitchers. Kent State scored a single tally in each of the first two innings before sending 12 to the plate in the seven-run third. After the Dolphins scored five in the wild third inning, the Flashes put the game out of reach with three in the fifth, four more in the sixth and added two in the ninth.
Justin Miknis got hits in each of his first four at-bats including a double and a no-doubt two run shot to right field, driving in four on Sunday afternoon. Collin Mathews enjoyed a three-hit day with a two-run homer of his own and drove in three on Sunday. Four different Flashes had multi-hit games and five different Flashes scored at least twice, led by Jake Casey's four-run game.
That was more than enough for Eric Chalus and Benny Roebuck. Chalus went the first five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Roebuck tossed three and a third innings of one-run relief, allowing two hits and striking out four in his first action since the 2021 season.
Kent State now sits at 2-1 on the season and will head to South Carolina next weekend to take on the Wofford Terriers. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
