SPARTANBURG, SC- Wofford rallied once again on Saturday, scoring the game's final five runs in a 7-3 setback for the Golden Flashes.

Joe Whitman got the start and delivered his second quality start of the season. The lefty pitched into the sixth and allowed four runs, two earned against six hits, two walks and a pair of strikeouts. The two earned runs came in the first as Wofford got the first two batters of the game on base and scored them on a sacrifice fly and a two-out double.

The Flashes would rally back to take the lead via the long ball. Jake Casey hit his second homer of the series and the season with one out in the second to get Kent State on the board. An inning later, Collin Mathews hit his second of the season, a two-run blast to left to score Connor Ashby and give Kent State a 3-2 lead.

It stayed 3-2 into the fifth when Wofford took advantage of a Whitman throwing error to tie the game. The lefty's errant pickoff throw at second sent Connor Larson to third and he'd come into score on a ground out. Whitman would be chased an inning later as an error prolonged the sixth inning, leading to an Andrew Calhoun two-out run-scoring double to make it 4-3. Wofford would break it open in the seventh, plating three insurance runs to put the game out of reach.

Kent State now sits at 2-3 on the season while Wofford improves to 5-1 and rides a five-game winning streak into Sunday. Sophomore Eric Chalus will take the ball for the Flashes while Matthew Marchal gets the Sunday start for the Terriers. Sunday's finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch and is set to stream on ESPN +.
