3SPARTANBURG, SC- A late three-run homer broke open a pitcher's duel and the Flashes dropped a tough 11-3 contest at Wofford on Sunday.

The Flashes got a strong start from lefty Eric Chalus who went the first five innings allowing two runs, one earned on three hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Terriers scored in each of the first two innings on Sunday, taking advantage of a throwing error in the first and a lead-off double in the second. Kent State countered with Jake Casey's third homer of the season in the top of the second and Aidan Longwell doubled home Josh Johnson in the third.

It would stay tied into the seventh thanks to some phenomenal defense from the Flashes. Aidan Longwell made a diving catch on a liner down the first base line in the fifth, leaving the bases loaded. Each member of the Flashes' outfield, Jake Casey, Collin Mathews and Josh Johnson all made stellar plays, with Johnson's sprawling grab taking away extra bases in the sixth.

Wofford would break through in the seventh, pre-season So-Con Player of the Year Ryan Galanie hit a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer and making it a 5-2 contest. An inning later, Galanie struck for a grand slam, again taking it opposite field to right to add insurance runs. Kolton Schaller would deliver his first collegiate hit in the ninth to drive in Casey, but that would be all for the Flashes in the ninth.

Kent State drops to 2-4 on the season and will have a quick turnaround next week. The Flashes head to Murray, Kentucky for a two-game mid-week series with the Murray State Racers. First pitch on Tuesday afternoon is set for 4 p.m. ET and can be seen on ESPN +.
