KENT- The Golden Flashes scored two in the ninth to break a 4-4 tie and took the opener of the two-game set from the Murray State Racers 6-4 inside Reagan Field on Tuesday night.

Aidan Longwell led the charge on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 at the plate including the go-ahead rbi triple in the ninth and tossing the first four-and-a-third innings on the mound, allowing two runs and striking out six. Jake Casey homered for the fourth-straight game, Mack Timbrook hit his first of the year, and Brody Williams hit his first collegiate home run in his return to his home state.

The Racers struck first on Tuesday, getting a two-run homer from Carson Garner in the bottom of the first inning. It would be the only hits that Longwell would allow and the only hits for the Racers until the seventh inning.

Kent State got on the board in the third, Longwell helped his own cause with a run-scoring single up the middle, plating Kyle Jackson. An inning later, Casey and Williams each homered in a three-batter span to give the Flashes their first lead of the game. In the sixth, Timbrook added to the lead, belting a ball over the right-centerfield wall.

Murray would chip away at the lead in the seventh, using a pair of doubles to make it a 4-3 game. An inning later, Dustin Mercer tied the game with a solo homer to right center, setting up the ninth-inning dramatics.

After the Flashes played a pair, Mitch Scott worked a perfect ninth for his first save as a Golden Flash. The win moves the Flashes to 3-4 on the season and drops the Racers to 2-6. The two teams will wrap up the short series tomorrow, first pitch has been moved up to 1 p.m. ET/noon central due to impending weather on tomorrow afternoon.
