KENT- The Golden Flashes wrap up the regular season with a pair of local duals this week, traveling to Cleveland State on Thursday night and hosting Bloomsburg on Sunday afternoon.
Thursday night's dual will start at seven from Cleveland State and Sunday's dual will start at noon inside the MAC Center.
The Flashes are coming off a pair of tough setbacks last weekend, dropping the annual grudge match to Ohio and getting edged by Central Michigan.
Graduate student Jake Ferri is currently at 99 career wins and is on the brink of becoming the first Kent State wrestler to cross the century mark with the Golden Flashes since Tim Rooney did it in the 2000 season.
This will be just the third trip to Cleveland in the last 10 years for the Flashes, last making the trek in the 2019 season, a 23-20 victory. Kent State is 21-8-1 all time against the Vikings and have won 13 of the last 14 meetings. The Vikings are led by their two heavyweights, Anthony Perrine and Daniel Bucknavich, who rank second in the MAC at 197 and 285, respectfully. Kent State freshman Keegan Knapp should get a chance to wrestle a top-three wrestler at 157 in Marcus Robinson after Corbyn Munson forfeited last week at Central Michigan.
Bloomsburg comes into the weekend at 0-4 in the MAC and will also take on Cleveland State on Saturday before heading to Kent for Sunday's dual. The Flashes will honor their senior class as well as some recent graduates on Sunday in pre-game and halftime ceremonies. The senior class will also recognize their most valuable professor, acknowledging the educator who had the biggest impact on their time at Kent State.
The Huskies are led by Cole Rhone, who is second in the MAC at 133 pounds and second on Bloomsburg with 16 wins. Josh Mason leads the team with 17 wins to date and is a top-five MAC wrestler at 141 pounds. This will be the first trip to the MACC for Bloomsburg, one of the newer members of the MAC in wrestling. The Flashes have faced them five times overall and are 4-1, including a 25-16 victory last year out in Bloomsburg.
Thursday night's match will stream for free on You Tube while Sunday's match will do the same on Box Cast. Track Wrestling will provide the live stats for both matches. Links for both Thursday and Sunday are available on the wrestling schedule page.
Sunday closes the regular season for the Flashes, they will spend the next few weeks preparing for the MAC Championships on March 3rd and 4th on the campus of George Mason.
