Flashes Rally for Sweep of Skyhawks

MARTIN,TN- Mack Timbrook hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the tenth, capping a rally for the Golden Flashes that secured a series sweep of the UT-Martin Skyhawks and a 9-6 win on Sunday afternoon.
Kent State rallied all day long, tying the game on four different occasions on Sunday. The Flashes took their first lead of the day in the ninth inning, using a two-out error to plate two unearned runs. The Skyhawks had one rally in them, hitting a game-tying two-run homer in the ninth to force extras.
That set up Timbrook's heroics. Timbrook followed singles by Aidan Longwell and Justin Miknis by sending a 1-1 pitch over the right-centerfield wall and giving the Flashes a 9-6 lead. Caden Leonard came in and closed the door on the Skyhawks and preserved the sweep.
Eric Chalus got the start and pitched into the fifth. He scattered five hits and three earned runs while walking one and striking out a pair. Four different Flashes recorded multi-hit games, led by Timbrook who drove in four total on the day.
The win moves Kent State to 7-4 on the season and runs the win streak to five. It's the longest win streak for the Flashes since April 20-27 of 2019 when the squad also ran off five straight.
The Flashes will open Schoonover Stadium for the 2023 season on Tuesday, welcoming in Youngstown State. It will be the first of a scheduled eight-game homestand, first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
