Flashes Post Season-High Score at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team earned their highest score of the 2023 season against a pair of top-25 opponents on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes combined for a 196.025 total, finishing third in the tri-meet. No. 16 Ohio State won the meet on its home floor with a 197.600, while No. 24 Illinois tallied 196.875 to place second.
ROTATION ONE
The Flashes started the afternoon off on bars. Senior Rachel DeCavitch and junior Sarah Haxton each posted a 9.825 to lead the Flashes, with Haxton's score matching her highest of the season. Senior Olivia Amodei and freshman Nastia Rudnitskaya each added a 9.800, with Rudnitskaya's total setting a new personal best, as the Flashes combined for a 49.000 on the first apparatus.
ROTATION TWO
On beam, the Flashes posted a 48.600 team score. DeCavitch again led the Flashes, scoring a 9.850 for her routine. Sophomore Alyssa Guns earned a 9.775 in her first event of the meet, and graduate student Cami Klein scored a 9.750 in the anchor spot for the Flashes.
ROTATION THREE
Alyssa Guns, the two-time-reigning Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, led the Flashes with a season-high 9.950 on floor to place second in the event. Guns has now earned a 9.90+ mark on floor five times this season. Junior Kennedy Weinpert added another stellar routine for the Flashes, earning a 9.875, while Amodei earned a 9.850. Sophomore Grace Wehry also tallied a 9.850, which matched her season high, as the Flashes combined for a 49.350 team total.
ROTATION FOUR
The Flashes posted their highest team total on vault this season, combining for a 49.175. DeCavitch and junior Kyndall Gilbert each scored 9.850 to lead the Flashes, while Amodei, Weinpert, and freshman Zoe Rankin all earned a 9.825. Rankin's total set a new career high, while Gilbert and Amodei each set a new season-high mark.

The Flashes return to the M.A.C. Center Sunday, March 12, to host Central Michigan at 1 p.m. As part of their annual Senior Day meet, the Flashes will be honoring the student-athletes competing in their final regular season home meet.

Fans can purchase single meet tickets by calling the Kent State Ticket Office at 330-672-4455. Online sales have been halted. Kent State will host the Mid-American Conference Championships for the first time since 2015 on Saturday, March 18.
