Flashes Erupt for 23 Runs in Wagon Wheel Series Opening Win

KENT- The Golden Flashes erupted for 23 runs in front of a sold-out Schoonover Stadium, taking the opener of the Wagon Wheel series, 23-3 on Friday night.
The Flashes struck early and often on Friday, pounding out 18 hits and taking advantage of nine hit by pitches on Friday night. Kent State scored in every inning but the second, where they left the bases loaded. Every starter scored at least one run in the ball game with Mack Timbrook and Brody Williams each crossing home four times.
Aidan Longwell led seven different guys who drove in two or more runs on Friday night. The first baseman upped his MAC-leading total to 49 with a three-for-three night and four driven in, highlighted by a bases-clearing single as part of a seven-run third inning.
That was more than enough run support for Ben Cruikshank, who improved to 5-0 on the season with another sterling performance. The lefty went seven innings, allowing one run and five hits while striking out six. Ciaran Caughey got the final six outs of the ballgame, striking out four in his two innings of work.
The victory moves Kent State to 23-10 overall and into a tie atop the Mid-American Conference Standings at 10-3. Akron drops to 13-20 overall and 6-10 against conference foes. The rivals will meet again on Saturday with a 3 p.m. first pitch from Schoonover Stadium.
