
Flashes In the Hunt After First Round of Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Ben MacLean sits in sole position of second place on the individual leaderboard and the Kent State men's golf team is in the hunt in striking distance after the first round of the Boilermaker Invitational.
The Golden Flashes recorded a 2-under par 282 and sit in fiifth place after the first round in Indiana, three strokes behind Rutgers' five-under par 279. Oklahoma and Wisconsin share second place with a four-under 280, followed by host Purdue in fourth place with a three-under 281. The Flashes also sit two spots above Eastern Michigan (+2) and hold a 15-stroke advantage over Ball State.
MacLean tallied seven birdies in his opening round en route to a four-under par 67, trailing only Wisconsin's Cameron Huss (-6). Chris Vandette and Jordan Gilkison also finished their rounds under par, entering the clubhouse in a six-way tie for 13th place with a one-under 70 each.
Cade Breitenstine and Bryce Reed find themselves in the top 50 after both finished the day with a score of 75 to round out the Flashes' competitors.
The Flashes will play 36 holes of golf tomorrow with Round 2 action beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m..
