KENT- The Golden Flashes jumped out to a big lead early and cruised to a 12-5 win over Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon in front of another sold out Schoonover Stadium.

The Flashes got a complete team effort both at the plate and on the mound on Saturday in the win. Every starter recorded either a hit, run batted in or run scored in the win.

Kent State struck early, scoring two runs without getting a hit in the first, taking advantage of four walks and a hit batter. After a scoreless second, the Flashes got the bats rolling again in the third. Josh Johnson tripled off the right field wall and one pitch later scored on a missile over the right-centerfield wall from Jake Casey, making it 4-0. The Flashes blew it open in the fourth, scoring five times. Aidan Longwell doubled home Justin Miknis, the first of two RBI for the MAC's leader on the day. The Flashes then got three-straight RBI singles with two out from Johnson, Casey and Mack Timbrook to lead 9-0. Three more were tacked on in the fifth as the Flashes had the bats rolling on Saturday.

The run support was more than enough for Joe Whitman. The lefty went five before turning it over to the bullpen in the one-sided affair. Whitman allowed only one hit and struck out nine against a pair of walks to improve to 7-1 on the season. Benny Roebuck and Jaden Varner took care of the final four innings and sent Kent State to 21-1 at home this season.

The Flashes will wrap up the regular-season portion of the home slate on Sunday. The team will honor its 11-man senior class on Sunday in a pre-game ceremony. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
