KENT, Ohio – Kent State lost its Mid-American Conference volleyball opener to Buffalo, 3-0 (20-25, 24-26, 14-25), Friday evening inside of the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (4-8, 0-1 MAC) had a chance to even the match and held a five-point lead late in the second set, only to have the Bulls rally for a 26-24 victory and ride that momentum to a sweep.
Sophomore Mackenzie McGuire led all players with 14 kills on the night. Sophomore Kendall White totaled 20 assists and tallied 14 digs to lead Kent State for the third match in a row. Senior Bryn Roberts had all four of the Flashes' aces.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (20-25): Kent State totaled five blocks to stay close and trailed 22-20 after a kill by Kiana Mack. Buffalo responded with back-to-back kills and the Flashes sent a shot wide to give the opening set to their guest.
Set 2 (24-26): A four-point run put Kent State ahead 22-17 but had its lead trimmed to one before Mackenzie McGuire made it 24-22 with her 10th kill of the set. Buffalo answered with a kill to extend the set before taking its first lead with a block and following with another kill.
Set 3 (14-25): The Bulls scored the first four points and led by as many as 12. Back-to-back aces by Bryn Roberts as part of a 4-0 run got the Flashes within eight, but Buffalo was able to close it out.
