Williams Scores but Flashes Fall in Non-Con Finale

FRESNO-Kent State dropped the finale of its non-conference slate, 53-10 to the Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday night at Valley Children's Stadium.
Xavier Williams had a season high 55 yards rushing to lead the team. He got the Flashes on the board in the first half with a 18-yard scamper off a third-down draw. The touchdown run capped an eight-play drive highlighted by a 40-yard over-the-shoulder by Jameel Gardner on a third-and thirteen. Gardner had a pair of catches on the night for 49 yards, his second grab on the day led to a 45-yard Andrew Glass field goal in the second quarter.
But Fresno State proved too much on Saturday night, playing an efficient, up-tempo style of offense. Capone Blue led the defense with seven stops and a pass break-up in his return to his home state of California. Fellow Californian Khalib Johns mirrored Blue's stat line, joining him atop the defensive leaderboard.
The Flashes close non-conference play at 1-3 overall while Fresno remains perfect at 4-0 on the season. Kent State is back home next Saturday to welcome in the Miami Redhawks on Parents and Family Weekend. Kick-off from Dix Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
