DALLAS- Kent State Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Randale L Richmond participated in the College Football Playoff (CFP) mock selection exercise.
Richmond was among a group of athletic directors from a variety of Division-I, FBS institutions and the current CFP selection committee. The exercise allowed Richmond to experience a typical CFP committee meeting and replicate the committee's selection process.
"This was an amazing experience and I am thankful to have been included," Richmond said. "It gives you insight into how difficult these decisions are and the time commitment that the committee makes to get things right. It was great to get a glimpse behind the scenes."
The group simulated the selection process for the 2021 season. Richmond and his colleagues evaluated the season, ranked the top 25 and made pairings for the CFP semifinals and the New Year's Six bowl games.
During the four hour deliberation and to further simulate the selection process, the committee was not allowed to use social media nor make calls, texts, or emails.
