Gilkison Leads Flashes at Blessings Collegiate Round Two

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kent State men's and women's golf teams continued the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, with round two contested at Blessings Golf Club. The Flashes' men posted a round two score of 17-over-par, bringing their total to 31-over-par, and are placed ninth among the ten teams competing. The women recorded a second-round score of 20-over-par, sitting at 32-over-par and in seventh place heading into round three.
The story of the week thus far for the Flashes' men's team has been the play of Jordan Gilkison. After firing a 3-under-par round of 69 on Tuesday, the second-lowest round by any men's golfer this week, the senior is alone in second place among the field of 54, just three strokes behind the leader. Gilkison is just one of four men's golfers below par after two rounds of play.
Freshman Nolan Haynes, competing in the Flashes' lineup for the first time in his career, provided the second-best score for the team at 6-over-par. After recording a round of even-par yesterday, Haynes' overall score of 6-over-par puts him tied for 23rd place heading into round three.
The final two countable scores toward the men's team total for Kent State were recorded by Isaiah Ibit and Bryce Reed. Both players followed round one scores of 7-over-par on Monday by shooting rounds of the same score in Tuesday's second round. At 14-over-par entering the third round, Ibit and Reed are tied for 45th place.
LSU sits atop the men's team leaderboard after two rounds of play at 6-over-par, leading second-placed Mississippi State by two strokes.
On the women's side of the competition, Veronika Kedronova posted the low score of the day for Kent State. The sophomore, coming off the second win of her collegiate career last week, fired a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday to climb 15 spots up the individual standings. Kedronova is now tied for 14th place among the field of 54 heading into the final round.
The best two-round score for the Flashes' women belongs to Isabella Goyette. After a joint-team best 1-over-par 73 yesterday, the freshman fired a 3-over-par 75 in round two, culminating in an overall score of 4-over-par. Goyette sits in ninth place entering round three, seeking the first top-ten finish of her collegiate career.
The other two countable scores for the Flashes' women in round two came from Gracie Larsen and Leon Takagi. Larsen recorded a 7-over-par 79 in the second round, sitting tied for 40th place at 13-over-par. Takagi posted an 8-over-par 80 in round two to sit tied for 28th at 9-over-par entering Wednesday's final round.
Hosts Arkansas lead the women's competition by a wide margin after round two at 4-under-par. Second place BYU currently sits 22 strokes behind at 18-over-par.
The Flashes will conclude the Blessings Collegiate Invitational with round three on Wednesday; tee times begin at 10 a.m. EST. Live coverage on the Golf Channel will begin at 4:30 p.m. EST.
