No. 25 BYU used a strong opening two rounds to take the team championship at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate, posting a final mark of 29-under-par to finish five strokes ahead of second-placed Long Beach State.
The Flashes were led over three rounds by Isaiah Ibit. After recording scores of 73 and 71 in rounds one and two, respectively, Kent State's star sophomore exploded with a 6-under-par 66 in Tuesday's third round. Ibit fired seven birdies to just one bogey over the final 18 to climb into the top ten of the final individual standings. A strong opening two rounds propelled James Newton to Kent State's second-best individual finish at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate. The Canadian senior fired back-to-back 3-under-par scores of 69 in the opening two rounds of the event, before closing with a 3-over-par 75 in round three. Newton led the Flashes with 15 birdies across 54 holes, allowing him to finish at 3-under-par and tied for 21st place. Hogg played his best golf of the week in round three, tallying a 1-under-par 71 to offset scores of 73 and 75 in rounds one and two, respectively. The sophomore from Ireland earns his second-best individual finish of the Fall behind his second round under par this season.
