KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kent State women's golf team began their final tournament of the Fall season at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate, with round one contested on Sunday and round two on Monday at Cherokee Country Club. The Flashes opened the tournament with a 15-over-par 299 in round one, before responding with a 12-over-par 296 in round two as they sit tied for seventh place among the 13 teams competing ahead of Tuesday's final round.
A common theme for the season has continued through the first 36 holes of this week's event as Veronika Kedronova once again leads the Flashes. After claiming the individual title in her last outing at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, the sophomore is tied for fifth place among the 73 golfers competing, at 2-over-par, heading into round three of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate. Kedronova fired a 2-over-par 73 in Sunday's first round before improving with an even-par 71 in round two on Monday. She has accumulated six birdies and an eagle through 36 holes, as she trails first place by just six strokes ahead of round three.
Leon Takagi holds the second-best 36-hole score among the Flashes at 8-over-par. The junior opened her tournament with a 5-over-par 76 in round one, proceeded by a three-over-par 74 in Monday's second round. Takagi recorded a flawless front-nine in round two, including eight pars and one birdie, helping her to a tie for 33rd within the individual standings after two rounds.
Aryn Matthews posted scores countable toward the Flashes' team total in each of the opening two rounds. She shot a 6-over-par 77 in round one and a 4-over-par 75 in round two, posting a flawless front-nine similar to Takagi, to sit tied for 46th place at 10-over-par.
Isabella Goyette opened her tournament with a strong opening round on Sunday, posting a joint-team best round of 2-over-par before bogey struggles saw her shoot a 9-over-par 80 in round two to sit tied for 50th place at 11-over-par entering Tuesday's third round.
Miami holds the 36-hole atop the team standings at 9-over-par after recording rounds of 2-over-par and 7-over-par respectively in rounds one and two.
The Flashes will conclude the Mercedes Benz Collegiate and their Fall season with round three on Tuesday set to begin at 9:15 a.m.
