Flashes in the Hunt, Kedronova Leads at Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kent State women's golf team began their fourth tournament of the Fall on Monday with the opening two rounds of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Classic contested at Lawrence Country Club. The Flashes sit in second place among the field of 13 after posting a 4-over-par 292 in round one and a 1-under-par 287 in round two.
Heading into tomorrow's final round, Veronika Kedronova sits in a tie for first place with four other golfers at 5-under-par. She fired a 2-under-par 70 in round one before recording a 3-under-par 69 in round two, bringing her total rounds of par or better this season to six. The sophomore posted 12 birdies in 36 holes on Monday to establish pole position in the individual standings. Kedronova will seek her second win of the season during Tuesday's final round after claiming the individual title at the Red Raider Invitational just two weeks ago.
Aryn Matthews provided another strong 36-hole performance for the Flashes as she is tied for sixth place in the individual standings. The freshman, making just her fourth collegiate appearance, fired back-to-back 1-under-par rounds of 71 to accumulate a 36-hole score of 2-under-par heading into round three.Â
The Flashes also received two more strong freshman performances on the day from Isabella Goyette and Gracie Larsen, who are both tied for 25th place at 5-over-par. Goyette opened her day with a 6-over-par 78 in round one before responding with a strong 1-under-par in round two, fueled by five birdies. Larsen started her day with a 1-over-par 73 before wrapping up the day with a 4-over-par 76 in round two. The pair will compete for top 20 finishes in Tuesday's third and final round.
Hosts Kansas hold a dominant lead atop the team standings after round two at 12-under-par. The Flashes will have to overcome a 15-stroke deficit to challenge the Jayhawks in round three.
The Flashes will look to challenge Kansas atop the team standings in the final round of the Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday, with tee times set to begin at 9 a.m. EST.
