
Hornbeak Tallies Double-Double as Flashes Vanquish Vikings

CLEVELAND – The Kent State Golden Flashes defeated regional rival Cleveland State University on Saturday night by a final score of 68-52. Senior forward Cli'Ron Hornbeak recorded his second career double-double in the win over the Vikings.
Points were at a premium in the opening 10 minutes with the Golden Flashes taking an early lead. Morgan Safford and Anthony Morales each hit threes to build a slight cushion for KSU. Following a few successful defensive stops by Cleveland State, the Flashes extended the lead with a trio of threes from VonCameron Davis, Jalen Sullinger, and Safford. The Vikings began to find their rhythm closing the game to seven points at the half. That momentum carried into the second as the Vikings closed the game quickly to two points. The Flashes began to take advantage of defensive stops and Hornbeak's rebounding to build the lead back to 10 with 13:30 left to play. Kent State kept their foot on the gas extending the lead to 14 by the final media timeout. Kent State Ultimately won by 16 by a final of 68-52.
Hornbeak tallied 11 rebounds and 10 points for his second KSU career double-double, and the first for a Flash this season. His first double-double came against South Dakota State on Dec. 2, 2022. Hornbeak, Morales, and Davis, all tallied double-digits. Morales' 11 points were a season high and his second double-digit performance in a row. Kent State shot 84.6% from the charity stripe going 11-13, and 50% from behind the arc at 11-22.
