
Burrell Records 1,000th Career Kill Tuesday Night Against Ohio

KENT, Ohio โ Graduate student Breanna Burrell posted the 1,000th kill of her collegiate career on Tuesday evening as Kent State fell to Ohio, 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 23-25), inside of the M.A.C. Center.
Burrell, who totaled 943 kills over four seasons at Northwestern State prior to joining the Golden Flashes this season, reached the milestone with a tip over the block that found the floor during the third set.
The Golden Flashes (2-22, 1-13 MAC) battled throughout the night, as the match featured 26 ties and 13 lead changes. The visiting Bobcats were able to win the key points late in sets to earn the victory.
Junior Mackenzie McGuire had a match-high 15 kills. Junior Kendall White led Kent State with 25 assists and nine digs.
How it Happenedโฆ
ย ย ย Set 1 (21-25): Neither team led by more than two prior to a 5-0 Ohio run that put the guests ahead 22-18. Nadia Miller recorded a kill to bring the run to an end, but Kent State was unable to score consecutive points the rest of the way and fell 25-21.
ย ย ย Set 2 (18-25): The Golden Flashes rallied from an early four-point deficit to go ahead 10-9 on an ace by Hailey Brenner. The Bobcats countered with a 10-3 run. Kent State managed to trim its deficit to three, but Ohio pulled away with a 4-0 run and went ahead 2-0 in the contest.
ย ย ย Set 3 (3-25): A late four-point surge put the Flashes ahead 23-22, but the Bobcats recorded kills on each of the next three points to put the match away.
Up Next for the Flashes
Kent State will hit the road for the final time of the 2024 season this weekend with matches at Central Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
