
Four Flashes Drop Double-Digits as Kent State Defeats Mercyhurst 82-57

KENT – The Kent State Men's Basketball team scored 46 second half points on Sunday evening as they downed the visiting Lakers of Mercyhurst University 82-57. Marquis Barnett racked up a season and Kent State career high of 15 points.
Kent State went on an 11-0 run to open the ballgame. Cli'Ron Hornbeak set the tone in the opening five minutes with two-hand slam underneath as part of the run. Mercyhurst began to catch up in the following five minutes. The Flashes were able to push the lead back to 12 but the half with production from Jamal Sumlin, Marquis Barnett, and VonCameron Davis. Barnett, Davis, Hornbeak, and Jalen Sullinger entered double-digits in scoring in the second half. Kent State maintained their cushion in the second half as Barnett, Sullinger, and Hornbeak all scored 15. Kent State won by 12 in a game they never trailed in.
Davis led the Flashes again in scoring with 17. He is seven points away from 1,000 career points for the blue and gold. Sullinger was just one point shy of his season high of 16 earlier this season. Hornbeak tallied double-digits for the fourth time this season going 7-11 and pulling in six rebounds. He continues to lead the Flashes in average rebounds per game at 6.7. Cian Medley led KSU in assists with four. With Sunday's win, Kent State has begun the season 8-2 throught the first 10 games for the first time since the 2019-2020 season.
