
Trio of Flashes Earn Event Victories During Weekend Indoor T&F Action

Ayden Bath, Grace Luther and Layne Studer were all victorious on Saturday as the Kent State track and field teams competed at the Tyson Invitational and SPIRE Indoor Games on Friday and Saturday.
Tyson Invitational
In the final event of the two-day meet hosted by the University of Arkansas, Kent State's women's 4x400-meter relay team clocked the third fastest time in program history. Jericha Petrella, Taylor Korytkowski, Alexandria Verbancic and Amryne Chilton recorded a time of 3:42.04 that is the best in the Mid-American Conference this year.
Yissis Cortijo Dominc also posted a top-10 all-time time on Saturday. Cortijo Dominc ran a team-best time of 24.59 seconds in the women's 200-meter dash, which puts her ninth on the program's all-time performance list.
Ethan Yost's fourth place finish in the men's mile was good for fourth place. Yost just missed matching his personal-best time from last weekend and crossed the finish line in 4:03.28.
Alexander Shields recorded a season-best mark of 23'-8.75" to finish sixth in the men's long jump.
SPIRE Indoor Games
For the second week in a row, Layne Studer set a new personal-best in the men's pole vault. This time it came in a first-place finish and height of 16'-8.75" that is tied for the No. 7 spot in Kent State history.
Grace Luther remained unbeaten against collegiate competitors this season, winning the women's weight throw with a mark of 62'-5". Briana Wright took second with a throw of 59'-6.
Ayden Bath rounded out the event winners with a time of 8.01 seconds in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
Donovan Crawford and Aliesha Shaw placed second in their respective throwing events. Crawford had a mark of 60' in the men's weight throw and Shaw threw 48'-8.75" in the women's shot put.
Alexa Nestor clocked a PR of 8.65 seconds in the women's 60m hurdles prelims, tying the eighth fastest time in school history. Nestor ran a time of 8.66 seconds in the finals and placed third.
SPIRE Indoor Games
Kent State will head to Akron Invitational on Friday, Feb. 16 for the final regular season indoor meet.
