RUSTON, LA- Kent State was unable to salvage the finale of the three-game series at Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs used a pair of big innings to win 13-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Sunday starter Calvin Bickerstaff got off to an ideal start, striking out the side in the first inning. But the Bulldogs broke the game open in the second and the third, scoring five in the second and tacking on four more in the third to chase Bickerstaff. The Flashes' bullpen got scoreless innings from Caden Leonard and Gannon Wentz. Wentz was joined by Jacob Bean in making their Golden Flashes' debut on Sunday.
The Kent State offense was quieted again by the Bulldog pitching staff. Jake Casey hit a one-out double in the first but was stranded in scoring position. Kent State thwarted the shutout in the ninth, loading the bases and getting a pair of run-scoring ground outs from Hunter Klotz and Connor Ashby.
The Flashes now sit at 1-5 on the season while Louisiana Tech is 7-0. Kent State heads to Troy to take on the Trojans in a two-game, midweek series. First pitch on Tuesday night is set for 7 p.m. ET.
