TROY, AL-Tim Orr and Brody Williams drove in runs but Troy claimed the opening game of the two-game series with a 6-2 win on Tuesday night in Alabama.

It was an active first inning with the Flashes striking first. After Kyle Jackson reached on a dropped third strike, Josh Johnson singled him to third and Tim Orr's safety squeeze, scored Jackson.

The Trojans got two in the bottom of the frame of starter Benny Roebuck, using a pair of doubles and a sac fly to plate two. Kent State threatened again in the second with Dom Kibler getting thrown out at home off a Kolton Schaller single. Troy broke things open with a three-run third, stringing together three singles to make it a 5-1 game and end Roebuck's night.

Evan Shapiro was effectively wild in relief of Roebuck, throwing three shutout innings, allowing one hit but walking five against four strikeouts. The teams traded runs late with the Flashes getting back-to-back triples from Jake Casey and Brody Williams. It took a running grab down the left field line to rob Kibler of a run-scoring single to end the eighth. The Flashes went down in order in the ninth, thanks to another pair of defensive plays by the Trojans.

The Flashes drop to 1-6 on the year while Troy is 7-1. The two teams will wrap the two-game set on Wednesday with a 5pm ET first pitch, neither team has decided on a starting pitcher.
