Late Rally Stuns Flashes on Wednesday Night

TROY, AL- The Troy Trojans scored four two-out runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun the Golden Flashes 12-11 on a blustery Wednesday night in Alabama.

The rally spoiled a phenomenal night for Dom Kibler and Tim Orr, who led the offensive charge on Wednesday. The freshman Kibler slugged his first home run of his college career, a two-run shot that was part of a five-run second. Kibler finished 2-3 with four rbi and two runs scored. Orr cracked two homers on Wednesday, going 2-4 with three batted in.

After Troy scored two in the first to jump start the slugfest, the Flashes answered back with five of their own in the second. The rally was highlighted by Kibler's homer that tied the game, but Josh Johnson and Mike McNamara added run-scoring hits of their own in the frame. The Trojans got two more off starter Gavin Jones in the second, but no more and Jones and Ciaran Caughey kept the Trojans off the scoreboard until the seventh.

The first of Orr's two homers came in the fourth, a two-run shot that made it 7-4. The Flashes added one more in the fifth when Kibler tagged and scored from second on a deep fly ball to centerfield that sent the Troy centerfielder into the wall. But the Trojans chipped away at the Flashes' lead, scoring two in the seventh, two more in the eighth before the ninth-inning rally.

The heartbreak sends Kent State to 1-7 while Troy is 9-1. Kent State wraps the lengthy southern road trip this Friday at Jacksonville State. First pitch against the Gamecocks on Friday night is set for 7 p.m. ET.
