
Kent State Beats Eastern Michigan, 76-64

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Behind 56 points from the trio of perimeter starters, Kent State earned a road victory over Eastern Michigan, 76-64, Wednesday night at the Gervin GameAbove Center.
The Golden Flashes (17-8, 12-3 MAC) had multiple 20-point scorers for the first time this season, as redshirt senior Katie Shumate had a game-high 23 points and junior Jenna Batsch finished with 21. Shumate also grabbed nine rebounds to share the team lead. Sophomore Dionna Gray added a season-high 12 points, career-high nine rebounds and five assists.
Kent State knocked down eight of its first 10 shots and led 18-4 midway through the first quarter. A scoring drought of nearly four minutes followed and it was 21-12 at the end of the period.
Despite shooting 3-of-14 in the second quarter, the Flashes lead 30-28 at the half.
The Flashes found their offensive rhythm after the break, scoring 31 points on 61.1% shooting to push the lead to 15.
Eastern Michigan started the fourth period with an 11-0 run to get within four with 6:23 to play before Batsch stopped the host's momentum by scoring five in a row. Shumate followed with a jump shot to push the lead back to double-figures, and the Eagles were held without a field goal until less than a minute remained.
Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center on Saturday, March 2 for Senior Day against Buffalo.
